人は年を取ると見聞が狭くなる

　また、年を重ねるほど、「そんな人はいない」などと他人を安易に断定するようになる人も多いのです。

　年を重ねると見聞は広くなるようで、狭くもなるのです。
　確かに知り合う人間や経験などのサンプル数は増えるのですが、それは母数が1億ある時に、サンプル数が10から100に増えるだけだったりするからです。

　自分の中では、10が100に増えると10倍になっているので、「見聞が広まった」とか「経験が増えた」という気がするのですが、実際には同じような環境や集団の中で生きているので、見聞も経験もさして増えないものなのです。

　それなのに「男（女）なんてこんなもの」とか「絶対にそんな人はいない」とか「そんなことはあり得ない」と断定してしまうことが増えるのです。

　年の離れた親や上司が言う根拠のない断定に、困ったことがある人は多いでしょう。

　「今の時代はそんなことないのに」と言っても、親や上司は「自分は50年60年生きているのだから、自分には間違いがない」と思っているわけです。

　人間の見聞や経験はたいてい、そんなに広くないものです。例えば世界中のすべての言語を理解できる人も、世界中にある書物を全部読みきることのできる人もいません。

　それを自覚することが大事なのです。
